A large Pakistani diaspora exists in three regions of the world: the Middle East, Europe, and North America. The types of migration towards these regions vary from permanent migration to Europe or North America to temporary movement of labour for employment in the Middle East. The UN reports that in 2019 Pakistan was in the top ten countries of origin of international migrants, with 6.3 million persons living abroad.
